It's Here!

I finally uploaded Unicorn Bait to Smashwords (and then uploaded four more times as I tried to figure out what I did wrong in formatting). It is FREE!

With this new edit, I added unicorn factoids to each chapter beginning. They were fun. I fleshed out a few scenes and adjusted a few things for story flow/logic. I am sure there are many grammatical and spelling problems I failed to fix, though I've read over this thing twice now in preparation. I hope readers enjoy the story.

Since uploading it Thursday night/Friday morning, it has been downloaded 130 times, which is just great in my estimation.

If anyone downloads this story to reader, I'd like to know if it looks okay. I don't have a Nook or Sony Reader so can't access to see if the formatting is screwy.

Here is the link to Unicorn Bait on Smashwords.

Sandie,

Thanks so much! If you read these in ebook format, Stalking Shadows should be coming to an ebook near you in about two months. I'm really excited about it.

Thanks,

Please make a sequel to it :)

Heeheehee, I have when I finished UB I had no thought of writing a sequel, but so many readers have expressed that desire that I am honestly thinking about it. It would be fun to work with these characters again.

I was absolutely amazed by this book! I read it in less the twenty-four hours, which kinda left my house work and kids neglected.lol But it was well worth it. Loved the story. I really hope that you do make a sequel. You pulled me in to the story, and I was a little disappointed to see it end. Good job. I will be reading more of your books in the future.

Ashlee,

Hope your kids aren't mad at me. So happy to hear you enjoyed it and that you'll give my future work a try. That is probably the highest compliment one can give a writer. Thanks!

Just finished reading Unicorn Bait and I loved it! I read it in one sitting. I loved all the characters but especially Tavik. Please, please write a sequel to this great story.

Thanks, Anon! I am planning the sequel now. Expect to hear more in the future.

I am new to ebooks, and Unicorn Bait was my first download. I too could not help but read it in one sitting! I am so happy to hear you are planning a sequel and I will be eagerly awaiting its arrival. In the meantime I plan to distract my mind with your other books. It may be hard though as I already miss Naomi and Tavik! Keep up the good work. I'm sure if your other books are anything like Unicorn Bait I will be a hooked fan for life! Thank you for this lovely story!!

My only request for the sequel is maybe it could be longer or if the gods love me it could be a series!! =D

Anon,

Thank you so much! I am busy working on the sequel. I don't know if it will be any longer than Unicorn Bait. I find writing very long works difficult. I have trouble reading very long works, too. It should be the same length or a little longer.

I love Unicorn Bait soooooooo much. Please, will you write or can you recommend any more books like it? It is SUCH a fun, cute, charming, humorous book. I love how Tavik wasn't what he seemed (so that it's not overrun by "the male protagonist was tall, muscular, oozing with sensuality, I immediately wanted to rip his clothes off" descriptions. Seriously, could we get some atypical males here please? I LOVE how you write and how Naomi is so so funny. The part about her thinking to herself all the ways to kill a mouse was hilarious.

I wrote the comment above. Just as an additional note -- actually I thought the ending to Unicorn Bait was PERFECT. It was just enough romance, but not too much to be gooey -- it left just enough to the imagination. Too much romance or plots revolving around the romance tend to suck the life and rationale out of a book. But you are such a great writer. I have also read the Scary Marys and you definitely have a talent for writing YA (I know UB is probably not YA, but it kind of reads like a cute YA). But I am eagerly waiting any new books that you might have. If only there were more writers like you around. Do you have any favorite novels you can suggest?

Anon,

Thank you so much! I am really touched by your words. I'm currently grappling with poossibly another edit of Unicorn Bait that would change one key plot point and I'm waffling on if this plot point should be changed or not. It doesn't help that it would change things in the sequel and thus demand some edits there as well. I think I may end up not changing the plot at all and just go full steam ahead.

As to other books, I've been thinking and have come up with some names.

Diana Wynne Jones - She wrote primarily YA/juvenile fiction but it's good stuff that transcends age. She wrote Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Sky which Hayao Miyazaki made into wonderful films.

Garth Nix - He has such an amazing imagination. I especially like his Keys to the Kingdom series.

I tried to think of humor fantasists and besides the grandmaster Terry Prachett, I thought of Anne Logston. I liked her book Shadow very much.

I looked over my Goodreads list and Plain Kate by Erin Bow is also really good and has a bit of humor. It's predominantly a serious story though.

Hi Anon,

I'm sorry I can't give a date yet for Dragon Prey. I'm revising it now and we will see what happens. I'm thinking of submitting it to an eBook publisher.
